O bicho Mulher (Parte 1) / A bug called Woman (Part 1)

Women admire people who think outside-the-box, who make them think about a little problem exactly for what it is: a causal and temporary event. However, they’re annoyed if that same person doesn’t react to that same problem with the same intensity. “He/she doesn’t understand,” they think automatically, “we can really tell they never experienced it. He/she is extremely immature!”

Women admire shy people, who remain silent most of the time but when they finally speak the entire room stops to think about what they’ve just said. However, women could never live with such creatures. After all, shy people are like backwoodsman, they are anti-social, too weird. They are not team oriented.

Women say they’re not searching for somebody perfect; no way, perfect people would only reveal “my own imperfection”, they explain between giggles. And, at the end of the day, perfect people are usual vain. Thinking about it, perfect people that they know of are just individuals that never had too much to think about in their lives or they do... but are irresponsible about it. Of course it’s easy to have that cool look like everything is always great, they are great, “I’m the one who’s working my butt out every day,” they say sulking.

We summarize it in our heads: they don’t like people who think differently but they also dislike perfect people; what they really want is someone more like them – okay, got it – But if they find someone like them we see them focus on the imperfections of that person. Yes, because if they’re alike they know them well, that one will never mislead them, oh no sir. If that person is smiling, they know it’s fake, if he/she is in a long-lasting and happy relationship, the truth is the partner’s obviously just enduring all their problems quietly.

Ok.

Okay. So being different, being perfect or just being like them doesn’t work. They say that, actually, they just want somebody honest. It’s all it takes: honesty. That’s it! It’s not asking too much, really. “But there’s no one honest nowadays!” they say in full drama. They, themselves, aren’t always honest “but it’s for the good of friendship!” they explain us (us: dumb and inexpedient beings).

They’ve been playing this game of deceptiveness for so long that they’ve entangled themselves in the spider web and, unable to see past the veil, they believe we believe women fight a lot for their friendships. We stand silent. But we are “too quiet”, they protest. We apologise and desperately seek in the back of our mind for some commonly used sentence that could save us. We throw one or two to see if it holds and ends the subject, because there’s really something cool going on TV. (Little pearls of wisdom boring as hell) Yes, life’s complicated... or... Yes, we can’t make friends like in the old days... or Yes, it’s everyone-for-themselves now. We shoot one at random.

And it does work, they go away all proud of their own little world packed full with preconceived notions and passwords, where there’s not even enough space to take a proper look in the mirror. But when the light shines in a certain indirect angle, just right, they describe the image in the mirror as a sweet, calm and very fair woman.
